From Bryan County Sheriff ’s Office reports;

Criminal trespass; An employee at the Loves on Highway 280 told a deputy a man there Aug. 26 had just called 911 for help and was “displaying characteristics of a mental breakdown.” The man said he fled Ridgeland, S.C. to escape his mother, “he knows only as ‘Lady Bird’” and was running from “spiritual war,” etc.

The man, who claimed Lady Bird stole him at birth, also said “through the use of the internet and Mark Zuckerberg, he was able to locate his real parents, who resided in Texas.” He also told deputies Lady Bird started COVID-19 and is “bald, looked like a witch and had no eyebrows.” The man was offered EMS for a mental evaluation, but he declined. He told deputies he didn’t want to hurt himself, he didn’t want to talk to anyone and he didn’t want a ride, but he did want a bus to Texas. He was given a criminal trespass warning and a ride to the Greyhound station in Savannah.

Shoplifting: An employee at an Ellabell convenience store reported Aug. 24 she found two empty “alcoholic beverage cans” in the store, checked the cameras and saw a man empty the contents of the cans into a fountain drink cup, “then pay for the cup as a fountain drink. She stated he then went outside and handed the drink to someone in a vehicle, but he himself got into another vehicle and drove off.” The woman was told to call if the man showed up again. He might.

Chase: A deputy reported on Aug. 23 he was on patrol when he clocked a motorcycle going 86 mph on Highway 204. The deputy turned around, hit his lights and sirens and tried to catch the bike, but it kept going – at 133 mph by now. The deputy gave up the chase, but radioed ahead. Another deputy spotted it on Highway 280 heading toward Pembroke, and law enforcement was able to get the bike into a subdivision and Pembroke officers blocked the entrance, but the biker got away anyway, went north on Highway 119 and was lost,” the report said.

A North Bryan man reported Aug. 30 one of his neighbor’s two pitbulls attacked “the plastic, rear passenger fender well of his vehicle,” while he and his family were in the vehicle, “and would not let them leave the vehicle.”

Eventually, however, the man was able to get out, but “the pitbull stood at the end of their driveway and would not leave.”

The deputy saw “the pitbull had attacked the fender well as there were fresh markings as well as dried saliva on the plastic,” the report said.

The owner of the pitbulls told the deputy he was unaware they’d gotten out of his fence. Deputies told him to keep his dogs from getting out and that someone from Animal Control would be following up.

Matter of record: A deputy patrolling Clarktown Road around 4 p.m. Aug. 28 reported he was flagged down by a woman “we have dealt with several times over the last two days due to her wandering off from home,” a report said, noting she has dementia, and “when she leaves home she will wander around the woods.”

The report said the woman said she fell in the woods and was in pain, and the deputy saw cuts and scrapes on her legs. He took her home and called for EMS, and eventually was able to get a phone number for a family member who lives out of town and has power of attorney for the woman.

She told the deputy the woman doesn’t want family members at her home and becomes violent if they show up to help.

The deputy explained ways to get the woman some help. The family member said was headed that way. In the meantime, “EMS cleaned (the woman’s) cuts and cleared her medically. (She) then requested that we vacate her property as we were aggravating her, so we left,” the report said.

DUI, child endangerment: Deputies on patrol on I-95 were called at some point around 4 a.m. Aug. 38 to look into reports of a reckless driver, and found the vehicle at the Liberty County line parked on the southbound shoulder with its flashers on.

The driver “appeared to be asleep behind the wheel ,” and “there was a small child lying down in the rear passenger seat.”

The report narrative made it clear the man was seriously DUI, and his wife was called to pick up the 6-year-old child, who “did not wake up until after (she) arrived.” The man was taken to jail.
