First look: Newcastle Pride stage, rides, food and drink prices as gates open

It’s not a true Geordie event with a spot of Sam Fender these days, and that proved the case at Newcastle Pride

Participants in the Newcastle Pride parade were treated to a rendition of Sam Fender's 'Seventeen Going Under' as they arrived at the Town Moor on Saturday.

Thousands of the LGBTQ+ community and allies in the North East paraded through the Newcastle city centre as the weekend's Pride celebrations continued after Friday's launch night.

Everything that is great about Newcastle was on show in the march and the event became even more Geordie for one section of the parade in the final few hundred metres.

Having wormed their way from the Civic Centre, down Northumberland Street, around Monument and back up towards Newcastle University, the final stretch took them into Exhibition Park and under the bridge towards the Town Moor - where the rest of the day's festivities were to continue.

Taking up his perch under the bridge was busker John Finnigan, who is often spotted outside St. James' Park and around the city.

Playing behind a collection of flags, he rattled through Geordie favourites, including a rendition of Sam Fender's 'Seventeen Going Under'.

Passers-by in the march were on hand to singalong as the track went down the usual treat with locals.

Fender is currently over 250 miles away playing at Truck Festival as he continues a storming summer of festival shows - previously taking to Glastonbury's Pyramid Stage, as well as playing his biggest ever headline set at Finsbury Park.

This weekend's Newcastle Pride celebrations continue all weekend on the Town Moor as Northern Pride hosts the UK Pride event.
