Reed Rubber Products celebrates its 100th anniversary on Sept. 12, 2022.

The company, which operates from St. Louis, produces window glazing and accessory products and extrudes of thermoplastic vulcanizates. It opened its doors in 1922 in downtown St. Louis as a small retailer that supplied the construction industry with rubber boots, hoses and slickers.

According to Reed Rubber Products, the company founder Benjamin Reed would find customers in the 1920s by traveling the train tracks and looking for smokestacks.

Much has changed for the company since then.

“My grandfather sold rubber boots,” says owner Clark Reed. “In the 1960s, we were making hose assemblies. For the last 40 years, we have been specializing in extruded window and HVAC seals. Our vision is to become the leading provider of extruded rubber seals in these industries.”

Reed Rubber Products offers profile extrusions, co-extrusions and tri-extrusions. Post-extrusion capabilities include punching bolt holes, adding mounting tape, printing, cutting to length, slip coating, and splicing, either endless or mitered for frame assemblies. It also provides glazing accessories, such as setting blocks and glazing tape.

“While we primarily manufacture proprietary parts, we will be launching an online glazing store at the end of the year where customers can purchase stock parts,” says Reed. “It feels a bit like a throwback to the company’s roots as a physical store.”

Reed Rubber Products has been honored with three consecutive Rubber & Plastics News Best Places to Work awards. It is still owned and operated by the Reed family.

Well deserved “Best Places to Work” awards! I’ve never seen a company that cares about and provides for it’s employees on the level that Reed Rubber does. They are by far THE Best place to work!
