LAKE OROVILLE: There are only two launch ramps open at the lake with Bidwell and Loafer Creek are the only options as the lake as dropped three feet to 694.68 feet in elevation and 34 percent. Bidwell is on Stage 3 and it will remain open until the lake hits 665 feet while Loafer Creek will close at 680 feet in elevation. Bass fishing remains solid and improving with reaction baits in the mornings with topwater Spooks, Bass Union’s Double-buzz bait, or River2Sea’s Whopper Ploppers, and the key is to find the bait schools. Once the sun come up, working from 20 to 50 feet with plastics on the drop-shot or spoons are the top techniques. Roboworm’s Morning Dawn is a productive color.

LAKE SHASTA: Bass action has picked up on the main body with good numbers of smaller fish to 3 pounds. Spooning in the shad balls at 60 to 65 feet remains the most productive for the larger fish but there are also fish busting bait on the surface with Z’man’s TRD’s, Senkos, or Hula Grub plastics in the 20- to 25-foot range are working for the smaller fish. Trout action remains good with scattered fish holding in the 50- to 60-foot range. The Shasta Lake Team Trout Derby is the weekend of October 15/16th. Information – www:shastalaketroutderby.com. The lake held at 33 percent. The public ramps at Centimudi, Jones Valley, and Sugarloaf remain open.

TRINITY RIVER, Willow Creek: Fall-run Chinook salmon as well as steelhead are moving through the lower Trinity, but the fishing has been on the slow side. The Trinity/Klamath confluence has been one of the top spots. Fall regulations for Chinook salmon fishing on the Trinity River went into effect on Sept. 1 and run through Dec. 31, with a sport quota of 699 adults. The main stem downstream of the State Route 299 Bridge at Cedar Flat to the Denny Road Bridge in Hawkins Bar is closed to all fishing Sept. 1 through Dec. 31. Anglers may monitor the quota status of open and closed sections of the Klamath and Trinity rivers by calling the information hotline at 800-564-6479. As of Sunday, flows were 615 cfs on the Hoopa gauge.

AMERICAN RIVER/Above Folsom: The National Forests are open once again, but the flows are extremely low, dropping from 1595 to 906 cfs at Chili Ba. The only hope is to work the deep pools far from the easily-accessed areas.

AMERICAN RIVER/Sacramento: Salmon action remains very slow. Some steelhead on the upper river using caddis-pupa patterns. The flows at Fair Oaks down to 1463 cfs. There are some striped bass in the lower river, but most of these fish pushed further upriver towards Verona.

FEATHER RIVER: Salmon action has started to pick up with far more fish holding throughout the system, but numbers are still low. Yuba City and the Outlet Hole have been the top producers with fish to 18 pounds. The water temperatures have dropped another degree or two and are currently 63/64 degrees. The flows at Gridley up slightly to 2,632 cfs while the flows at Star Bend have dropped from 2,902 to 2,797-cfs.

SACRAMENTO RIVER, Keswick Reservoir to Red Bluff: Trout action remains very good on UV Birds, Olive Hot Spots, and Brown Rubber legs and eggs are starting to produce as well. An occasional salmon. Salmon action picking up at the barge hole with fish to 23 pounds starting to show, but numbers remain low. Plugs and roe now producing. Battle Creek very low at 175 cfs., and few salmon have returned to the hatchery.

SACRAMENTO RIVER, Colusa to Tisdale: Salmon action remains slow. The flows at the Colusa Bridge are up from 3,312 to3,345 cfs.
