In her second-grade classroom outside Seattle, Fatima Nuñez Ardon often tells her students stories about everyday people realizing their dreams. One day, for example, she talked about Salvadoran American NASA astronaut Francisco Rubio and his journey to the International Space Station.

Another day, she told them her own life story — how she, an El Salvadoran immigrant who arrived in the U.S. in middle school speaking very little English, came to be a teacher.

The head of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee is calling for freezing all U.S. cooperation with Saudi Arabia, including arms sales. Sen. Robert Menendez also declared Monday that he would no longer green-light any U.S. dealings with the Saudis, beyond essential security matters. The New Jersey Democrat's announcement is one of the strongest expressions yet of U.S. anger over Saudi oil-production cuts. The oil cuts stand to benefit Russia in its war in Ukraine. Menendez becomes one of a growing number of Democrats since the oil-production announcement late last week to call for an end to billions of dollars in annual U.S. arms sales to Saudi Arabia.

Passengers had no light, heat or running toilets. Wolverine Train 351 left Pontiac about 6 a.m. EDT Friday. Some passengers were so frustrated that they got off the train well before it finally reached Chicago on Saturday, just after midnight CDT, MLive.com reported. The problems began west of Ann Arbor. The train stopped there due to the power problem, Amtrak spokesman Jason Abrams said. Amtrak has apologized to passengers and offered transportation vouchers.

The bipartisan Wisconsin Elections Commission can't agree on what to tell the state’s local election officials about how to handle poll watchers, including where they can stand as people register to vote and check in to receive their ballots. The commission split along party lines Monday, with all three Republicans in support of sending a notice to clerks attempting to spell out what the law allows. All three Democrats opposed it, resulting in a deadlock vote and no change. The issue came up less than a month after the commission voted to start the lengthy process of reviewing existing rules and writing new ones for election observers.

Others question his qualifications to run such a sprawling school with more than 50,000 students. The separate meetings Monday were with students, faculty and staff on campus. During those sessions, the Gainesville Sun reported about 1,000 people yelling “Hey, hey, ho, ho, Ben Sasse has got to go” disrupted at least one of the meetings.

Arizona lost to the undefeated Philadelphia Eagles 20-17 on Sunday and the game followed a familar script. The Cardinals played terrible early, falling behind 14-0 before playing much better in the second half and rallying to tie it at 17 in the fourth quarter. The Browns traded for former Pro Bowl linebacker Deion Jones following Sunday's loss. He'll help at some point, but Stefanski knows the Browns better fix things quickly before their season unravels.
