BLIND BAY, B.C. — Search and rescue volunteers were called out to Shuswap Lake near Copper Island Monday night (May 2) after a boat hit a log boom.

In a Facebook post, Royal Canadian Marine Search and Rescue (RCM SAR) says the callout just before midnight Monday was its first of the season.

A pleasure craft had collided with a log boom being towed by a tug boat. The craft was stuck on the boom when rescuers arrived and the two occupants were not hurt.

Apparently unaware of the collision, the tug boat captain was alerted while rescuers removed the boat and took the occupants to safety.

RCM SAR says the pleasure craft operators misread the lights marking the log boom.
